The Memorandum of Understanding signed by both organizations provides citizen soldiers and members of the Kentucky National Guard with support as they work toward earning a degree from Eastern Kentucky University.
Eastern Kentucky University and the Kentucky National Guard have signed an agreement that will provide citizen soldiers with the support they need to seek a degree from the university. The university’s Office of Military and Veteran Affairs will provide members of the Kentucky National Guard with support and resources as they work toward degree completion.
According to an article on Eastern Kentucky University’s website, university president David McFaddin was quoted as saying, “At Eastern Kentucky University, we prioritize supporting those who serve our country–as evidenced by our top two ranking in Military Friendly Schools and Best for Vets status. Our partnership with the Kentucky National Guard strengthens that commitment by providing even greater opportunities for service members to pursue their educational and career goals.”
Individuals who are members of the Kentucky National Guard and choose to attend Eastern Kentucky University will receive assistance from the Office of Military and Veteran Affairs that includes one-on-one academic guidance, advanced course registration, maximized credits, and access to the on-campus EKU Veterans Center. Active duty military members receive reduced university tuition. Additionally, as per the MOU, the partnership will provide a liaison for the university’s Army ROTC program.
Maj. Gen. Haldane B. Lamberton, Kentucky’s adjutant general, was quoted as saying, “This partnership underscores the shared commitment of the KYNG and EKU to our veterans and their family members by ensuring they have access to the support and services needed to successfully pursue higher education while simultaneously serving our state and our country through military service.”
