The JumpStart Nursing program offers early guaranteed acceptance into the university’s Associate Degree in Nursing program for high school seniors.
Bluefield State University held the signing ceremony for the inaugural cohort of its JumpStart Nursing program, a program which offers early and guaranteed acceptance into the university’s Associate Degree in Nursing program, on April 2, 2025. The ceremony was attended by 11 students who are part of the inaugural cohort, both from local West Virginia communities and from other places around the country, including Colorado.
According to an article on Bluefield State University’s website, Sandra Wynn, who is the Director of the university’s Associate Degree Nursing Program, was quoted as saying of the new JumpStart Nursing program, “High School seniors have a lot of things to consider when choosing their educational path. The purpose of the JumpStart program is to take some of the stress off of them and make their decisions easier by offering them an early acceptance into the program, early financial aid and educational counseling, and funding to pay for their textbooks and uniforms. By taking some of the burdens of preparing for college, our hope is to ease their transition into University life and to give them every opportunity to be successful in the nursing program at Bluefield State University.”
The JumpStart Nursing program offers early and guaranteed acceptance into the university’s college program for high school seniors, giving them the opportunity to get on track for their chosen profession as early as possible in their college education. The program features personalized one-on-one guidance from nursing faculty to ensure students feel supported as they begin their nursing education. Additionally, the university provides students with up to $500 in assistance toward uniforms, textbooks, and other nursing program necessities to ensure there are as few barriers to success as possible.
The signing ceremony will be an annual event for each new cohort of students in the JumpStart Nursing program. It will serve as a celebration that will be attended by the students and their families, marking their potential and bringing them closer to their future nursing success.
