The partnership will allow GNTC students to earn an online bachelor degree from SAU in 18 to 24 months.
Southern Adventist University has partnered with Georgia Northwestern Technical College to bring more educational opportunities to students. As part of a five-year academic and educational partnership agreement, students from Georgia Northwestern Technical College who have not already earned a bachelor degree can do so online from Southern Adventist University in 18 to 24 months. The applicable programs under the agreement include Business Management, Communication, Integrative Studies, Nursing RN to BSN, and Psychology.
According to an article on Southern Adventist University’s website, Ken Shaw, EdD, the president of the university, was quoted as saying of the new partnership, “We are thrilled to provide this opportunity to students at GNTC, equipping them to thrive in a fluid job market. This partnership is especially beneficial for independent students who want to complete a bachelor’s degree while working since it creates a smooth pathway for entering our online Adult Degree Completion program, allowing a seamless pursuit of their educational goals.”
The agreement will allow Georgia Northwestern Technical College students to enroll into Southern Adventist University’s online Adult Degree Completion program. The program is designed to be flexible to accommodate the schedule of adults who work full time by offering fully online courses. Students who wish to enter into the Adult Degree Completion program must have at least 24 college credits and have earned a 2.0 GPA, and they must be at least 25 years old.
Cynthia Wright, who serves as the director of the Adult Degree Completion program, brings her own life experience into the role, allowing her to help students achieve their goals. She said, “Southern Adventist University’s fully online Adult Degree Completion program is designed to give adult learners the opportunity to achieve their goals by completing their degree, enabling them to secure better-paying jobs and provide a better life for their families. We are excited to partner with GNTC in this endeavor. As a former adult learner, I understand the challenges adult students face while balancing full-time work schedules and pursuing a degree to advance their careers, and my aim is to walk with them on their educational journey. Southern Adventist University would welcome the opportunity to expand our bachelor’s degree options within the online Adult Degree Completion program in the future. New offerings would be based on student needs—because they are the reason this program exists.”
As part of the agreement, representatives of the Adult Degree Completion program will coordinate with GNTC’s Office of Career Services in order to arrange open houses that will fully explain the program to GNTC students and help them understand the benefits of participating. In addition, Southern Adventist University will provide a 10% tuition discount to students from Georgia Northwestern Technical College students who have completed an associate degree within the past five years, or those who are currently working toward the requirements to complete an associate degree.
Dr. Michael Fennell, EdD, who is the dean of Business and Public Service Technologies at GNTC, explained these benefits, saying, “This initiative provides our students with more options to continue their education. This program is specifically designed to transfer credits from our college, ensuring that students retain the credits they have already earned—ultimately saving them both time and money.”
