Bowling Green State University extends in-state tuition scholarship to Detroit students
The Falcon Tuition Guarantee will give students hailing from Detroit, Michigan the Ohio resident tuition pricing at Bowling Green State University. The university extended the offer to other cities in Southeast Michigan in 2022.
Bowling Green State University is continuing its efforts to entice Michigan students to attend. The university, located in Bowling Green, Ohio, has extended its Falcon Tuition Guarantee to students from Detroit, in effect giving Detroit students the Ohio resident tuition price. The scholarship was first available to Michigan students in 2022 when it was offered to students in Lenawee and Monroe counties.
According to an article on Bowling Green State University’s website, Cecilia Castellano, who serves as the university’s vice president for enrollment management, was quoted as saying of the development, "We are excited to continue our momentum in southeast Michigan by expanding this scholarship to Wayne County students. With this expansion, more students from the Detroit area will be empowered to earn a BGSU degree and take part in our top-ranked student experience filled with comprehensive opportunities in one of America's safest college towns."
When the scholarship was first introduced into Southeast Michigan by way of Lenawee and Monroe counties, the school saw students from these locations attending the university to study in programs like computer science, engineering, and psychology, among others.
According to the webpage for the Falcon Tuition Guarantee, it “locks in your tuition and fees, housing, meal plan and out-of-state costs for 12 consecutive semesters for undergraduate students. From the first bill to the last, you know from the start what your charges will be. This makes it easy for you to budget and plan for the next four years.” For Detroit and other Southeast Michigan students, this means their tuition will be locked at the in-state tuition price for the four years they will be attending as an undergraduate student, whether they are a first-time college student or are transferring from another institution.
In order to be eligible for the Falcon Tuition Guarantee, students must have a 3.0 GPA, a 20 ACT score, or a 1040 SAT score. These students will receive a scholarship that covers the out-of-state tuition fees, essentially allowing them to complete their college education in Ohio at the price an Ohioan would pay.
