The new Associate of Applied Science degree program will be launched in August 2025 and will be offered both on campus and online.
Motlow State Community College has announced the addition of a new degree program to its roster of offerings: an Associate of Applied Science degree in hospitality management. The program features two embedded certificates to better prepare students for careers in a variety of hospitality, food, and tourism settings, including on cruise ships, resorts, country clubs, and more. The program will be available for students beginning in August 2025.
According to an article on Motlow State Community College’s website, Dr. Jack Babb, who was recently hired to be the director of the new program, was quoted as saying of its addition, “Motlow State’s new Hospitality Management Program was built to help students discover the many diverse and exciting industries that fall under the umbrella of hospitality. The program incorporates experiential learning, relevant certifications, and insights from industry professionals in a way that prepares students for a variety of career paths.”
The Associate of Applied Science in hospitality management degree will put students on the path toward a career in the hospitality sector, which includes settings in food, hotels, and tourism. Students who obtain an associate degree in hospitality management will be able to get started in a career, though earning a bachelor degree in a related hospitality major at a four-year university is another option, as well. The program at Motlow State Community College features two embedded certificates that will even better prepare students to seek jobs in this sector: the Sanitation and Food Safety will help students obtain their ServSafe Food Handler certification from the National Restaurant Association, and the Fundamentals of Guest Services will allow students to earn their certification from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute.
By completing the program, students will gain business know-how and service skills that will prepare them to work in theme parks, on cruises, in arenas, at resorts, at restaurants, or in hotels, among many other similar settings.
