The Ohio Department of Higher Education has awarded Malone University its next round of Choose Ohio First funding, which will be provided as scholarships to students in STEM programs.
Malone University has received $773,500 in Choose Ohio First funding from the Ohio Department of Higher Education. Choose Ohio First is an initiative that seeks to bolster the state’s workforce by providing scholarships to students who are studying in-demand subjects in STEM to ensure they finish their education and work in their field in Ohio. This funding will be distributed to STEM students as scholarships in amounts up to $8,000.
According to an article on Malone University’s website, Christina Schnyders, Ph.D., LPCC-S, the university’s provost, was quoted as saying, “We’re grateful that the Ohio Department of Education has continued to award this generous scholarship funding to us. As a Christian institution, the ways in which we integrate faith into our learning uniquely prepares students to be servant leaders in their chosen professions. We believe that our Christian worldview prepares compassionate healthcare practitioners, wise stewards of God’s creation, and empathetic educators across STEM and other disciplines.”
Malone University provides its Choose Ohio First scholarships to undergraduate students who are studying biochemistry, biology, environmental studies, environmental science, mathematics, nursing, or zoo & wildlife biology, and to graduate students who are studying clinical mental health counseling or are in the Master of Science in Nursing program.
In order to be eligible for Choose Ohio First funding, students must be Ohio residents and be new to their STEM program. University admissions requirements must also be met. The Choose Ohio First initiative was started in 2008 as a way to improve the state’s presence in STEM industries.
Chancellor Mike Duffey said, "This latest group of Choose Ohio First awardees, including Malone University, represents Ohio's best when it comes to preparing STEM scholars for success in the workforce. I commend Malone for its efforts as part of the Choose Ohio First program and for being among these deserving campuses."
