Trevecca Nazarene University and Marian University collaborate with Ascension Saint Thomas West Hospital on new nursing education center

The new education center will serve as a training area for nursing students in Nashville to gain the skills needed to fill gaps in the local healthcare community.

Trevecca Nazarene University, Marian University, and Ascension Saint Thomas West Hospital have teamed up to open a new training center for Nashville-area nursing students to learn the skills they need to become qualified and proficient nurses. The new nursing center, called the Advanced Clinical Learning Center, was opened on September 26 on the first floor of Ascension Saint Thomas West Hospital. The opening was attended by officials from Trevecca Nazarene University and Marian University’s Leighton School of Nursing.

According to an article on Trevecca Nazarene University’s website, Dr. Tom Middendorf, who serves as the provost and chief of staff at Trevecca Nazarene University, shared his thoughts on the opening of the Advanced Clinical Learning Center, saying, “Trevecca Nazarene University is at its best when we innovate and create out of the needs of our community, and we are excited to be part of the solution to the national nursing shortage through our growing BSN program. We are grateful for this investment by Ascension Saint Thomas—the education center will provide an innovative active-learning space to better prepare the next generation of nurses by having them immersed in the hospital setting.”

The Advanced Clinical Learning Center features surgery simulation labs, patient manikins, debriefing rooms, and learning spaces, all of which will be shared by Trevecca Nazarene University, Marian University, and Ascension Saint Thomas West Hospital.

Amir Hamad, the vice president of nursing of Ascension Saint Thomas, said, “We know that healthcare organizations across the nation are experiencing nursing shortages each year. Nashville is not immune from that staggering statistic. Ascension Saint Thomas wants to be part of the answer for growing our nursing base, by partnering with Marian University, Trevecca Nazarene University, and other nursing colleges we are working to find our future nurses by giving people an opportunity to grow through education.”
