Owensboro Community and Technical College named one of the best colleges to work for

Owensboro Community and Technical College is continuing its trend of being named one of the  best colleges to work for by the Great Colleges to Work For Program.

The Great Colleges to Work For Program has recently named Owensboro Community & Technical College one of the best colleges to work for in the country.

The Chronicle of Higher Education released the results on September 20 of this year. The data consisted of a survey of 216 universities and colleges including 77 two year institutions and 139 four year institutions. Of the schools surveyed, 75 were given the rating “Great College to Work For,” including Owensboro Community and Technical College. The designation is based on specific policies and best practices. Of the 75 schools, 22 were two year schools and 52 were four year schools. The schools were further broken down by size into three categories: small, medium and large. OCTC was placed in the medium category as it has between 3,000 and 9,999 enrolled students.

Owensboro college has received this same designation several times, including last year, 2022, 2021, and 2016.

In an article posted on the school’s website, OCTC’s president Scott Williams was quoted on the school’s designation, saying, "This is a very satisfying confirmation of the college but our real goal is not recognition - it's being a community that values the needs and contributions of every individual. In that sense, everyone at OCTC helps to make this a great place to work. It is truly our passion to help students succeed."

The Chief Culture Strategist at Modern Think, Richard K. Boyer, was also quoted as saying, "There can be no doubt the stresses and challenges facing higher education today are collectively unprecedented. And it seems as if there's some new threat emerging on a weekly basis. But in this moment, in the 2024 Great Colleges to Work For awardees, we have examples of institutions that have navigated these tumultuous times holding true to their missions and values and never losing sight of the importance of their people."

The results of the survey were based on a two pronged assessment that looked at a questionnaire given to each institution that looked at data such as employment and workplace policies, as well as a survey that was given to the employees themselves such as professional support staff, faculty, and administrators. The employee feedback was then weighted more strongly than the quantitative data.

The Great Colleges to Work For program is one of the most prestigious as well as one of the biggest of America’s workplace recognition programs. The surveys for this round were administered and analyzed by Modern Think, a strategic human capital consulting firm.
