The $1 million grant is being utilized to provide scholarships for undergraduate students pursuing computer-related bachelor degrees.
Indiana Institute of Technology has announced its receipt of a $1 million grant from the National Science Foundation that will fund scholarships for low-income students pursuing bachelor degrees in computer-related majors.
According to an article on Indiana Tech’s website, Dr. Stephanos Mavromoustakos, who serves as a professor, the Chair of Cybersecurity and Computer Science, and the leader of the team who wrote the grant proposal, was quoted as saying of the award, “Indiana Tech is extremely grateful to have received this grant from the National Science Foundation. Far too often, financial circumstances prevent people from pursuing education that will open doors for them. With this grant, Indiana Tech will be able to provide some students with academic opportunities that will be life changing.”
The grant proposal, titled Developing Industry and Innovation Scholars in the Midwest, was written by five professors from Indiana Tech and focused on providing opportunity to low-income, full time students who have an expressed interest in computer-related fields, as well as have demonstrated their potential or their academic abilities.
The academic programs that qualify for the grant are computer engineering, computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, or software engineering. In addition to scholarships, students who qualify will receive a free laptop to assist them in their studies, career preparation, experiential learning opportunities, and numerous support resources.
Those interested in receiving the scholarship should visit the scholarship’s application page.
