The school has expanded its offerings for students seeking mental health help with its continued partnership with the BetterMynd app. Separately, it earned a Youth Empowerment grant that allowed a student to create the Zen Den on campus.
West Liberty University is taking strides to help care for its students’ mental health. The school has renewed its existing partnership with BetterMynd, a mental health platform, and thanks to a Youth Empowerment grant worth $7,000, a student was tasked with designing a Zen Den to give the campus community an area to recharge.
According to an article on West Liberty University’s website, Lisa Witzberger, who serves as the Director of Counseling Services at the university, collaborated with Courtney Ellifritz, a West Liberty University student, to create the Zen Den relaxation area. Of the project, and the school’s overall dedication to student mental health and wellness, Witzberger is quoted as saying, “We are committed to creating a supportive environment where students feel empowered to take care of their mental health. With the launch of the Zen Den and our continued partnership with BetterMynd, we are providing students with multiple avenues for mental health support, ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed both academically and personally.”
The Zen Den was made possible through the school receiving a $7,000 Youth Empowerment grant. It is located on the second floor of the Student Union, and offers students an area to retreat from the stress of their everyday lives. The Zen Den features soothing sound machines, comfortable seating, soft lighting, and self-help resources to help students calm their minds or practice meditation.
The renewed partnership with BetterMynd is further evidence that West Liberty University wants to help its students thrive mentally and emotionally. BetterMynd is an online mental health and wellness platform that gives users access to counseling from licensed mental health counselors. The service is confidential and convenient, as users are able to schedule virtual sessions with their counselor around their school and work schedule.
