Walsh University has entered into a five-year partnership with Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital Sports Medicine. The partnership entails Mercy Hospital Sports Medicine being named the preferred provider of medical care for Walsh University student athletes. It will also serve as a sponsor for Walsh University athletics. The partnership went into effect on August 1.

According to an article on Walsh University’s website, Christina Paone, who serves as the university’s Interim Vice President Athletics and Athletic Director, shared her enthusiasm for the new partnership and the level of care it will provide for student athletes. She is quoted as saying, “Partnering with the Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital affords our students a world-renown level of care and expertise. Having our scholar-athletes receive top-tier care will enable them to perform at their best while maintaining optimal health and safety."

Among the services Mercy Hospital Sports Medicine will provide to Walsh University student athletes thanks to the partnership are the availability and access to ten full time athletic trainers, strength coaches, and conditioning coaches. There will also be provided supervision in training rooms, guidance on how to properly use equipment, and licensed physicians and physical therapists who will attend home games and provide care during clinics. Student athletes will have access to injury prevention information, injury assessments, medical administrative support, and future access to the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center, which is planned to open in 2027.

The COO of Mercy Hospital David K. Stewart was quoted as saying of this new partnership, “We are thrilled to continue and expand our relationship with Walsh University. This partnership reflects our commitment to providing exceptional sports medicine services and supporting the overall well-being of student scholar-athletes. We look forward to fostering a healthy and dynamic athletic environment at Walsh.”
