King University pens streamlined nursing agreement with Virginia Highlands Community College

Students who earn an associate degree in nursing from Virginia Highlands Community College and obtain a registered nursing license have guaranteed admission to King University’s RN-BSN program.

King University has announced that it has entered into a partnership with Virginia Highlands Community College to provide a streamlined pathway for students who earn an associate degree in nursing from VHCC to finish their nursing education in King University’s RN-BSN program.

According to an article on King University’s website, Derek Whisman, Ed.D., who is the vice president of instruction and student services at Virginia Highlands Community College, said of the agreement, “VHCC and King have a long history of working together to create avenues of success for students. Together, our partnership creates affordable, accessible ways for students to gain the educational experience and credentials they need to establish and foster their careers, starting with the RN-BSN program.”

In order to be eligible for the pathway, students must earn an associate of applied science in nursing from Virginia Highlands Community College and have a valid registered nursing license. If the student has a C+ or higher average, they will be considered juniors at King University. Students will be able to complete the RN-BSN program in three semesters. The RN-BSN program at King University is an online program.

Once completing the RN-BSN program, students can then move on to further nursing education at King University. The university offers Master of Science in Nursing and Registered Nurse to Doctor of Nursing Practice programs in a hybrid format.

Matt Roberts, Ed.D., King University’s provost, was quoted as saying, “This agreement recognizes the achievement of VHCC students in completing a rigorous academic program, passing the NCLEX, and obtaining their RN license. We’re proud to support them in their career goals, as well as all our colleagues in Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee who are working to provide high-quality health care to our families and neighbors.”
