The new program offering will prepare students for careers in AI in just two years, and can also feed into the school’s bachelor programs in similar areas.
University of Cincinnati Blue Ash has a new associate degree AI program offering that will get students workforce ready in two years. It includes Intel’s AI for Workforce program, which was developed to provide faculty training and hundreds of hours of course content. Artificial intelligence is quickly becoming popular in the workplace in numerous fields and career types, and the program will help students prepare for being able to use artificial intelligence in their future careers.
According to an article on University of Cincinnati’s website, UC Blue Ash Dean Robin Lightner, PhD was quoted as saying of the new program offering, “Our new Artificial Intelligence program is an important development as we continuously work to add academic degree programs that offer valuable opportunities for our students and help meet the demand among businesses in our region and beyond. We truly appreciate Intel’s partnership in making this program possible.”
The new program is designed so that students do not need any prior knowledge or experience in coding or technology in order to begin. Basic math skills are all that is needed, as well as an interest in the topic. Topics covered in the course include the ethics of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and language processing, among others. The program will teach practical applications of artificial intelligence in careers like health care, manufacturing, and more, and will give students valuable opportunities to participate in related internships.
Brian Gonzalez, who serves as the executive director of Government Partnerships and Initiatives at Intel Corporation, commented on the school’s new program and its use of the company’s AI for Workforce program, saying, “Artificial intelligence holds immense potential as a transformative force, reshaping jobs and industries. For the U.S. to be globally competitive, it must develop an AI-ready workforce. Intel is committed to bringing AI everywhere and expanding digital readiness. We greatly value this collaboration with UC Blue Ash to bring AI courses and an AI associate degree track to Ohio, which will be vital for helping businesses find skilled AI professionals.”
Intel is building two semiconductor chip factories in the state of Ohio, with the venture expected to bring upwards of 3,000 technology-adjacent jobs to the state. Construction will begin in 2027.
