The scholarship provides free Lake Michigan College tuition to students who graduate from in-district high schools in 2024.
Lake Michigan College's new Red Hawk Futures Scholarship program will give students hailing from high schools in the district a last-dollar scholarship to attend Lake Michigan College at no cost.
According to an article on Lake Michigan College’s website, the president of the LMC Foundation, Randy Bettich, said of the scholarship, “The LMC Foundation is honored to provide seed money to launch this program and will continue to raise additional funding as needed to ensure its sustainability. Providing access to college and job training programs for local high school graduates is at the top of our priority list.”
As a last-dollar scholarship, the Red Hawk Futures Scholarship will apply to cover any tuition fees that are not already covered by other sources, like the FAFSA and other grants and scholarships. This effectively means that students who take advantage of the scholarship program will be able to attend Lake Michigan College completely free.
The scholarship comes from the Lake Michigan College Foundation and is available to students who will be starting at Lake Michigan College in the Fall 2024 semester. Tuition will be covered through the Spring 2026 semester. There is no GPA requirement, but in order to be eligible, students must graduate from an in-district high school or reside in-district and receive a GED or equivalency.
Among the high schools that count as in-district for the Red Hawk Futures Scholarship program are Benton Harbor High School, Brandywine High School, Grace Christian High School, Lake Michigan Catholic High School, New Buffalo High School, St. Joseph High School, and Watervliet High School. A full list of eligible schools can be found on Lake Michigan College’s website.
