Baldwin Wallace University introduces "Create Your Possible: Sherwin-Williams Career Accelerator” with JobsOhio

The career accelerator is the newest initiative to come from Baldwin Wallace University’s relationship with Sherwin-Williams, following years of professional development, talent engagement, and hundreds of alumni being employed by the company.

In partnership with JobsOhio, Baldwin Wallace University has introduced its latest venture with Sherwin-Williams: the “Create Your Possible: Sherwin-Williams Career Accelerator.” The career accelerator will give Baldwin Wallace University students the opportunity to take part in mentorships, networking, and learning opportunities supported by Sherwin-Williams, a paint manufacturing and development company.

According to an article on Baldwin Wallace University’s website, Dr. Jim McCargar, who serves as the dean of the School of Science and Engineering at Baldwin Wallace University, explained what this career accelerator will mean for students, saying, "Students in this program truly will be creating possibilities for themselves with comprehensive support to address academic, social and financial concerns. Students will also have access to exclusive career programming, including an inside view of careers at Sherwin-Williams."

The career accelerator will be closely tied to Choose Ohio First programming, which is focused on assisting students entering STEM majors who may be at a financial disadvantage to pursue their education. Baldwin Wallace plans to recruit Choose Ohio First scholarship students into the Sherwin-Williams career accelerator program.

Sophomore, junior, and senior students in the following majors are eligible to take part in the “Create Your Possible: Sherwin-Williams Career Accelerator”: accounting, chemistry, computer science, cybersecurity analyst, data analytics, data science, engineering, finance, mathematics, and software engineering.

Diana Strongosky, who serves as Sherwin-Williams’ Senior Vice President of Global Innovation, said of the company’s continued partnership with Baldwin Wallace University, "Sherwin-Williams is committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best and brightest workforce in Northeast Ohio. Through strategic collaborations with leading universities like Baldwin Wallace, we can continue to cultivate a dynamic and diverse talent pipeline for Sherwin-Williams as well as the region.”

Lacey Kogelnik, executive director of Baldwin Wallace Corporate and Organizational Engagement, was quoted as saying of the career accelerator, "We're grateful for this new chapter in our collaboration. This specialized learning community will encourage students to be proactive and self-determined as they navigate the demands of college life and begin the transition from college to career."

Students can apply for the accelerator this spring. For more information, students may email Katie Adkins at kadkins@bw.edu.
