Educator Pastry Chef of the Year title awarded to instructor at Oakland Community College

Chef Greg Stroker teaches Baking and Pastry at Oakland Community College’s Culinary Studies Institute. He earned this year’s American Culinary Federation Michigan Chefs de Cuisine Educator Pastry Chef of the Year recognition.

Oakland Community College Culinary Studies Institute instructor Chef Greg Stroker has been recognized as the Educator Pastry Chef of the Year by the American Culinary Federation Michigan Chefs de Cuisine.

According to an article on Oakland Community College’s website, Academic Dean Cindy Carbone is quoted as praising Chef Stroker and the recognition he has received, saying, “It is a testament to the quality of our Culinary program to have Chef Greg as one of our chefs. He inspires and motivates our students while at the same time instilling in them the true artistry of culinary skill. Chef Greg is a teacher at heart. His passion is demonstrated in his commitment to students. He is very deserving of this award. We are proud, honored and fortunate to have him at our renowned Culinary Arts Institute.”  

In order to be considered for the recognition by the American Culinary Federation Michigan Chefs de Cuisine, one must be a current educator in the area of culinary arts who has shown dedication to providing knowledge, guidance, and expertise to the next generation of students seeking to enter the culinary profession. 

This is something Chef Stroker does every day, though he does not seek recognition for what he views as, simply, his job.

Chef Stroker said, “I really enjoy teaching the science and art of baking and pastries to students interested in learning. I am proud of any positive reflection this award brings to OCC’s culinary program.”

Chef Stroker has had an impressive career thus far. After receiving several degrees, he went on to be a pastry chef at various fine dining restaurants in Michigan. He has won awards for his accomplishments in chocolate competitions, and has served as an instructor at Washtenaw Community College, The Art Institute of Michigan, Dorsey Schools Culinary Academy, and Oakland Community College.
