Dr. Ken Flowers is a graduate of Lake Michigan College and a former LMC instructor.
The Michigan Association of Career and Technical Education has named Lake Michigan College's Dr. Ken Flowers as its Postsecondary Professional of the Year for his role in contributing to career and technical education programs.
According to an article on Lake Michigan College’s website, Dr. Flowers expressed his gratitude for the recognition and was quoted as saying, "I am truly honored and grateful to be named the Michigan Association for Career and Technical Education Postsecondary Professional of the Year. This recognition is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our dedicated team at LMC. It reflects our shared commitment to advancing career and technical education, empowering students, and preparing them for success in the ever-evolving workforce. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Michigan ACTE for this prestigious honor and look forward to furthering our mission of shaping the future workforce."
Dr. Flowers received an associate’s degree from Lake Michigan College in 1991 and spent more than a decade working in manufacturing, which would have provided insight into technical education that he brought forward into the next phases of his career. Dr. Flowers was an instructor at Lake Michigan College in the Machining and Manufacturing program, became the chair of the Technology Department after earning his Master’s degree in Career & Technical Education from Ferris State University, and became the dean of Career and Workforce Education at Lake Michigan College in 2014. He became the Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs in 2023 after earning his doctorate.
The Michigan Association of Career and Technical Education is an organization that seeks to advance career training and technical education in the state by providing information to members, educational institutions, and local industry.
Dr. Flowers was honored with his recognition as Postsecondary Professional of the Year during the Michigan Career Education Conference on January 29.
