Northern Michigan University is a public university located in Marquette, Michigan and is the largest university in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Founded in 1899, NMU has an approximate 8,000 enrolled students per semester across its 180 undergraduate and graduate programs.

Medical Laboratory Assistant Certificate
Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLA) are members of the health care delivery team. They perform a variety of duties under the supervision of a laboratory scientist, nurse or other medical personnel. Duties may include specimen procurement and sample processing, basic laboratory testing, patient processing, and secretarial work. This one-year program includes an introduction to fundamental laboratory, office and medical skills. After the first semester, students train in clinical sites within the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Upon completion of this NAACLS approved program graduates are eligible for national MLA certification and will find employment in a variety of health care settings.
Nursing
This program combines the study of humanities and physical and behavioral sciences with professional nursing courses and clinical experience. Students are expected to demonstrate competency in critical thinking, communication and therapeutic nursing interventions when providing care for clients, families and communities. Graduates of the program are qualified to take the National Council for Licensure Exam (NCLEX-RN) and to apply for entrance to graduate programs in nursing.

The partnership and project were made possible via the National Science Foundation’s Robert Noyce Scholarship Program, which is providing $2.7 million for the project.
