North Central Michigan College is a public community college located in Petoskey, Michigan. Founded in 1959, NCMC enrolls approximately 2,500 students annually among its three campus centers in Petoskey, Gaylord, and Cheboygan.

Certified Nurse Aide
Students who complete AH 154 (Certified Nurse Aide Training) will be eligible to take the certified nurse aide (CNA) examination in the State of Michigan. North Central offers Prometric Certified Nurse Aide testing on campus year round to eligible students. These students will be prepared for immediate employment in long-term care facilities, home health care, physicians' offices and hospitals.
Medical Assistant
Medical Assistant training provides diverse employment opportunities. Students in this program can develop skills necessary for entry-level employment in the healthcare field. Special emphasis is placed on increasing skills needed to work in physicians' offices and health clinics. Students must complete a minimum of 34 credit hours to earn a certificate in Medical Assisting. This program also has a Work-Based Learning component.
Medical Billing and Coding
This certificate is designed for students interested in working in medical billing and coding departments of larger physician practices. With increasing emphasis on accountability in healthcare and the increasing complexity of federal coding requirements, demand for individuals trained in this field is expected to remain high.
Nursing
North Central offers the Associate of Applied Science in nursing degree for students who upon completion of the program will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Registered Nurses. A nursing degree provides diverse opportunities for challenging jobs and advancement. Registered Nurses with an Associate of Applied Science degree are eligible to work in a variety of settings including a hospital, extended care facility, home healthcare and physician practice.
Phlebotomy Technician
Upon successful completion of the PHLB program, students may write the exam for the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Phlebotomy Technician (PbT) Certification. North Central offers NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing) on campus for Phlebotomy program graduates.
Recent news about North Central Michigan College
The transfer programs apply to students pursuing bachelor degrees in International Relations or International Studies.
High school students who have completed career and technical education (CTE) courses that align with 13 of North Central’s academic programs will now receive college credit.
The new partnership comes along with a scholarship offer available to the first 30 North Central Michigan College Nursing graduates who apply to Davenport University’s BSN completion program.
The funding comes in part from the U.S. Department of Education’s Child Care Access Means Parents in School program, and in part from the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation.
North Central Michigan College has added Associate of Arts Concentration in Global Studies and Associate of Applied Science in Mechatronics to its roster of degree programs.
The Fast Track courses in the Phlebotomy Technician and Medical Assistant programs have graduated a total of 44 students in the first year, while achieving a 94% pass rate on the national certification exam.
Starting in January 2024, North Central Michigan College will offer a practical nurse certificate program, which will prepare students to take the National Council Licensure Exam.
A nine-week course in dental assisting has been added by North Central College to quickly prepare students to be knowledgeable in the field of dental assisting, as well as taking the National Dental Assistants Board Exam.
With a child care crisis underway in the Petoskey area, North Central Michigan College has set up a Child Care Initiative to address the problem. Part of the initiative is to hold a survey asking employees what they need, and employers what they offer, to help figure out where there are gaps, and how to bridge them.
Renovations are complete on the building formerly referred to as the Administration/Classroom Building and the grand opening of the new Borra Learning Center is scheduled for August 19.
Three existing degree programs at North Central Michigan College will be available entirely online beginning this fall, a move the college says is to make degree completion more accessible to older students with families and full-time jobs.
The Walloon Lake Association and Conservancy and North Central have formally entered into a partnership, funded by a local philanthropist, to provide learning experiences to students that will bring real world understanding to concepts taught in classes.
