Lake Michigan College provides new home for Leadership Accelerator Academy

As the Leadership Accelerator Academy gears up for its first session to be scheduled since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lake Michigan College steps in to become the hub for the regional leadership development organization.

Since 2015, the Leadership Accelerator Academy has worked to develop a network of local community and business leaders. Lake Michigan College (LMC) recently stepped up to host the programs offered, using its learning management system to offer instruction to participants in the academy. The next Leadership Accelerator Academy will start in January 2022 and run through July 14.

In a recent news release, LMC Dean of Career & Workforce Education, Dr. Kenneth Flowers, cited the college's history in explaining the move. "For 75 years, Lake Michigan College has provided the educational foundation for students who have gone on to become leaders throughout Southwest Michigan and beyond. Stepping into this key role with the Leadership Accelerator Program is just another opportunity for LMC to help engage, empower and develop the next generation of leaders in our community," Flowers said.

The Leadership Accelerator Academy focuses on the individual journeys of participants, who are typically people in highly impactful roles in their communities. Through the academy, they are able to improve their communication skills and learn more about community perspectives, including navigating barriers to community success while developing emotional intelligence. With the move to LMC, the program will utilize more virtual interactions to engage participants.

Beginning in January, the academy will include twelve sessions taught by local leaders, as well as a trip to Lansing to meet with state congress representatives. The cost to participate is $1,500 and those who complete the program will receive a certification from Leadership Accelerator Academy.
