First ever recipient of the Marion Boyd Scholarship announced at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College

SKYCTC radiology student Autum White named the inaugural recipient of a memorial scholarship named for an alumna and former instructor in the Radiology Program, Marion Boyd.

Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) recently recognized radiography student Autum White as the first recipient of the Marion Boyd Scholarship, presented by the Med Center Health Foundation. The scholarship was founded by the Med Center Health Foundation in honor of Marion Boyd, who graduated from SKYCTC in 1963 and had a 57 year long career in radiology as a technician, department manager, and instructor. A press release from SKYCTC profiled Marion Boyd's history with the college and provided information on the scholarship recipient.

As a graduate of SKYCTC, Boyd began her work in the field of radiology in 1963 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green, eventually becoming the manager of Radiology. The press release from the college characterizes Boyd as a friend, mentor, and teacher to many students in the Radiology Program. After Boyd passed away in January of 2021, the scholarship fund was established in her honor.

Lori Slaughter, Assistant to the Dean of Allied Health and Nursing and Professor of Radiography at SKYCTC, said, "Marion Boyd voluntarily served as a clinical instructor for the SKYCTC Radiography program. She had been in the field of Radiology since 1963 and has played a vital role in the livelihood of the Radiography students at SKYCTC and the future of their families. She not only prepared them for their forthcoming careers, but she also gave much wanted/needed advice for everyday life in general. She made every student feel special as if they were her number one and she truly meant it. Even though Marion is no longer here with us physically, she will always be involved in the lives of future Radiography students through this scholarship.  Thank you sweet Marion - you are still making a difference."

White talked about how the scholarship will impact her and about the legacy of Boyd, "It is an honor to be chosen for the Marion Body Scholarship at SKYCTC for my final year in the Radiology Program. By receiving this scholarship, it has lightened my financial burden which allows me to focus more on my studies. I am profoundly grateful for the scholarship support. It has inspired me to help others and give back to the community. I hope one day I will be able to help and lead students to achieve their goals just as Marion did!"

The Marion Boyd Scholarship fund continues to raise money for future scholarships through the Med Center Health Foundation.
