Four new articulation agreements allow Monroe County Community College students to transfer more credits

Monroe County Community College has entered into four new articulation agreements with Wayne State University to make the transfer process easier for engineering students. Students will be able to transfer more credits from MCCC, reducing the overall cost of obtaining a four-year degree. The changes will be effective beginning in the fall of 2021 and impact students who earn an associate of applied science degree with the Michigan Transfer Agreement endorsement. Depending on the program they choose upon enrolling at WSU, students will be able to carry over anywhere from 82 to 90 credits, up from the currently allowable 64 credits.

MCCC published a news release revealing the details of the agreements with WSU, explaining that students can follow one of four paths to take advantage of the increase in credits transferred. MCCC graduates can transfer up to 90 credits to the mechanical engineering technology degree program at WSU, 86 credits to the construction management program, 85 credits to the welding and metallurgical engineering technology program, and 82 credits to the electrical/electronic engineering technology program. 

Administrators from both colleges are eager to implement the new agreements. WSU Interim Provost, Dr. Laurie Lauzon Clabo, noted the various groups that will benefit: "We are delighted to partner with Monroe County Community College on these new agreements. They provide an opportunity for students to complete a bachelor's degree from a research-intensive university in an efficient and affordable way. These agreements also benefit the state and local communities by providing a well-prepared workforce. Through these agreements, we are streamlining the transfer process, eliminating the duplication of coursework, and focusing on students' success."

Vice President of Instruction for MCCC, Dr. Grace Yackee, spoke about the advantages enjoyed by students who transfer to WSU, "WSU's engineering programs are renowned and their graduates are highly recruited professionally. We are very proud WSU opted to partner with MCCC to provide this opportunity to our students in the Applied Science and Engineering Technology programs."
