New agreement between Montcalm Community College and Purdue University Fort Wayne will simplify the transfer process for students

Purdue University Fort Wayne will offer an online bachelor degree program for MCC graduates that will allow the students to complete a four-year degree without having to relocate.

Administrators at Montcalm Community College and Purdue University Fort Wayne have signed an articulation agreement that will ease the transfer process for students who earn an Associate of Applied Science. The arrangement will permit students to transfer as many as 88 credit hours from MCC to Purdue, requiring that 32 additional credit hours be earned at Purdue to complete the Bachelor of Applied Science degree. All Purdue credits can be completed through online courses, which removes the costly burden of relocation from students on their educational path.

In a news release from Montcalm Community College, MCC President Dr. Stacy H. Young highlights the benefit to students when the college establishes these pacts with four-year institutions like Purdue, "Articulation agreements give students a great advantage to acquire needed credentials by offering a seamless process for them as they move through the educational system from one institution to another. It is important to us that students not lose time or credits in the transition, and this agreement will assure that the transfer goes smoothly."

When students transfer to Purdue University Fort Wayne under this agreement, they will have access to a degree program with five different concentrations for their major available in the online format. Students can choose from information systems, information technology, supervision and leadership, business, or an interdisciplinary track to degree completion. Carl Drummond, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Enrollment Management at Purdue Fort Wayne is eager to work with Montcalm Community College, "We are excited to begin working with students from MCC. Our Bachelor of Applied Science degree requirements are completely online, which allows students to take the classes without having to relocate. Students can complete a Purdue degree, and the excellent education that accompanies it, without the typical barriers that concern out-of-state students."

Vice President for Academic Affairs at Montcalm Community College, Rob Spohr emphasized the increased career potential for students that take advantage of the arrangement, "This is a great opportunity for our students. This articulation agreement covers all of the programs that are high wage and high demand. Students can start at MCC, finish at Purdue and go out and get a really good job making a great wage."
