Vincennes University enters a partnership with two high schools in Taiwan, allowing students there to earn college credits while completing their diploma

The agreement between VU and Taipei Private Taibei High School and Wagor International School marks the first time high school students in Taiwan will have access to American college credits while still in secondary school.

A new collaboration between Vincennes University and two Taiwanese high schools is bringing a historic first to students in Taiwan. Prior to this arrangement, no other university offered concurrent enrollment to high schoolers in Taiwan. VU administrators hope that the arrangement will entice some of those students to pursue post-secondary degrees with the university as international students. While Vincennes has offered concurrent enrollment for over 50 years, this is the first time the opportunity will be extended to teens outside of Indiana.

In an announcement regarding the new partnership, VU President Dr. Chuck Johnson said, "We are so excited to be the first university offering concurrent enrollment with high schools in Taiwan, with two outstanding high schools. These new and innovative partnerships build upon the long history of Vincennes University offering accessible, high-quality education and training to generations of students in the U.S. and internationally. We are proud to be pioneers with Taibei and Wagor in this great new adventure." The opportunity not only allows the students in Taiwan to earn credits toward a VU degree, it helps acclimate them to an American style of teaching, preparing them for success after they complete their secondary degrees and pursue a degree from a U.S. institution. Courses will be taught by VU faculty.

Taibei High School is located in the capital city of Taipei. It was established over 100 years ago and offers kindergarten, junior high, and high school education options and is set to have a full elementary education program by 2022. The director of the Foreign Language Center at Taipei Private Taibei High School, Celine Yuan, expressed her enthusiasm for the agreement saying, "Taibei is a great school with history and tradition. We are proud of our past, but also look forward to our future. In this fast-changing world, we strive to shape and guide our students to be global citizens with an international mind. That's why we treasure this opportunity to work with you to expand our students' horizons and pave the way for their future."

Wagor International School is located in Taichung City in central Taiwan. It is a bilingual school offering K-12 instruction emphasizing technology and cultural cultivation. Director of the International Program at Wagor, Roy Lee, looks forward to what the partnership will mean for the students, "We are partnering with Vincennes University to pave the way for our students to get a head start to study in the U.S. Individuals in central Taiwan can use the facility as a portal to fulfill their dreams of an American education."
