Great Oaks Career Campuses and Indian Hill High School recognized nationally for student empowerment

Project Lead The Way named Great Oaks Career Campuses and Indian Hill High School a Distinguished School for Gateway, a STEM program offered jointly by the two institutions.

Gateway, a program led by Great Oaks Career Campuses (GOCC) and Indian Hill High School, recently earned the Distinguished School award for the two learning institutions from Project Lead The Way (PLTW). Gateway is a program that strives to provide students with STEM skills that can be carried with them through school and their careers. The criteria for the Distinguished School designation states that schools must offer at least one PLTW Gateway course at each grade level, have at least half of the student body participating, and a quarter of students continuing participation throughout high school.

A news release from Great Oaks Career Campuses explains that the Gateway program is led by instructor Myrtis Smith, who has taught at GOCC since 2006 and has been recognized four times as "Most Influential Teacher" during that period. President and CEO Great Oaks Career Campuses Harry Snyder said, "Myrtis Smith has been one of our most influential teachers for 15 years. Great Oaks and her students are fortunate to have her and we are proud of the work she has done as the lead instructor for Project Lead the Way at Indian Hill High School."

PLTW is a national nonprofit that seeks to empower students with knowledge and skills in biomedical science, computer science, and engineering. It provides teacher resources to ensure that students can take what they learn in these subjects with them as they progress through their education and career journeys. Indian Hill High School and Great Oaks Career Campuses are among 204 schools across the country to receive the Distinguished School recognition.
