Best Value Schools selected the LPN Program at MCC for its small class sizes, flexibility, and the versatility of the program which allows LPN grads to return to get their associate's in nursing.
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program at Muskegon Community College recently earned recognition from Best Value Schools as the best LPN program in Michigan. Best Value Schools considers a number of factors when evaluating colleges and programs, including cost, graduation rates, and job placement figures. The LPN program at MCC was noted for its small class sizes, flexible schedules, and the ability for students to build on their LPN certification by returning to earn their Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) within two semesters.
Best Value Schools published a list of the top nine of LPN programs in Michigan for 2021 and provided this description of Muskegon Community College and its LPN Program: "Muskegon Community College is a public community college located on 111-acres in Michigan. The college has two other campuses located in Ottawa and Newaygo counties. Students interested in the nursing program can earn their LPN or diploma in Practical Nursing and an Associate Degree in Nursing. Students can take advantage of small classes and flexible schedules."
Beth Kroll, MCC Nursing Program Coordinator, responded to the recognition by Best Values School in a news release from the college. "Our Practical Nurse grads serve in many vital roles to meet the health needs of our community. These nurses make a difference every day in the lives of the patients and families they work with," Kroll said, adding, "The Practice Nurse Program at MCC is part of a ladder design which allows PN grads to return for their ADN with just two semesters to complete. Many of our students obtain their PN license and return later to complete their RN coursework."
According to MCC, the LPN program students have a success rate of nearly 100 percent in passing their NCLEX-PN, the national exam needed to be licensed in Michigan as a Practical Nurse. The LPN program at Muskegon Community College is accredited through the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
