The Livonia Medical Center has officially opened on the campus of Schoolcraft College, near the recently opened Health Sciences Center, with many specialized practices in operation and more to come.
The Schoolcraft College campus is home to a newly-opened healthcare facility operated by Saint Joseph Mercy Health System and the Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA), both based in Ann Arbor. The 124,000 square foot Livonia Medical Center is located on the northeast corner of the college campus, near the also newly-opened Health Sciences Center. College administrators in a recent news release emphasized both the benefit to the community of the new Livonia Medical Center as well as the job opportunities the center will provide for its students.
Schoolcraft College President, Dr. Glenn Cerny, said of the new facility, "We're very pleased to see the Livonia Medical Center come online and extend a hearty welcome to our campus. Having the many specialty practices located in a convenient and familiar location is a tremendous asset for our community. We're also excited that our new Health Sciences Center is just across the street, creating a great opportunity for many of our students in our healthcare-related programs to literally go from classroom to a vital, in-demand job and fulfilling career."
The college offers medical education programs in nursing, health information technology, medical assisting, and pharmacy sciences. The news release also states that two programs will be added this fall in medical imagery.
According to the news release, the Livonia Medical Center became operational on April 19, with St. Joe's Medical Group (SJMG) Sports Medicine being the first medical practice to move in. It was followed by the opening of IHA Livonia Primary Care and the relocation of IHA Urgent Care from the Jeffress Center, also on the Schoolcraft College campus.
This is not the first collaboration between Schoolcraft College and Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. Earlier in 2021, the St. Joe's Mercy Elite Sports Center opened, providing a fitness and rehabilitation space located on campus, along with classrooms for students enrolled in the Movement Science program.
