Kent State University Ashtabula announces new director of the Radiologic Technology program

Tammy McClish has been hired to direct the RT program at Kent State University's campus in Ashtabula. McClish looks forward to sharing her extensive knowledge of digital imaging and distance learning with students.

Dr. Susan J. Stocker, dean and CEO of Kent State University Ashtabula recently announced the hiring of Tammy McClish as Academic Program Director for the Radiologic Technology program. With demand for X-ray techs growing, Dr. Stocker is confident that McClish will be able to increase enrollment in the program. McClish's qualifications include an extensive career in the field, participation in regional health care advisory committees, and contributions to educational textbooks and software. McClish is also an alumna of Kent State.

An announcement from Kent State University Ashtabula provides details of McClish's experience and education. After earning her Radiologic Technology certification from St. Alexis Hospital School of Radiologic Technology, McClish went on to earn masters degrees, in both education and health care, from Kent State. She is currently working on obtaining her Ph.D. in Education Specializations focused on Instructional Design for Online Learning. Professionally, McClish has worked extensively in both clinical and academic settings. 

McClish is excited about her new role, "When the opportunity presented itself to become a part of the Kent State Ashtabula team, I found myself attracted by the potential to share my knowledge with students enrolled in the Radiologic Technology program," adding, "I look forward to utilizing my expertise in distance learning and digital imaging to guide the students to meet the demands placed on radiology departments to achieve success in the ever-changing healthcare climate."

While Kent State University Ashtabula's Radiologic Technology program already boasts a 100 percent job placement rate over the last five years, university officials are eager to see how the department will advance under McClish's leadership. Dr. Stocker commented, "We are pleased to welcome Tammy McClish to Kent State Ashtabula. We are counting on Tammy to increase enrollment in our Radiologic Technology program. X-ray technologists are in high demand with excellent salaries and many opportunities for career advancement."

The future indeed looks promising for those who pursue a career in the field. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, job growth in the field of radiologic technology is projected to be as much as seven percent over the next eight years. Senior Program Director for Nursing and Allied Health, Dr. Julie Senita, said of McClish, "We are happy to have Tammy, an expert in her field with extensive experience in radiology, teaching, and directing allied health programs, join our team. Her expertise will allow the Radiology Technology program to continue to achieve excellence in graduation and credentialing outcomes and expand opportunities for current students and the radiology professionals in local healthcare organizations."

McClish officially took up her new role at the beginning of the Spring 2021 semester.
