Marion Technical College commemorates fifty years of education
While an official event will have to wait until the summer due to COVID-19 restrictions, administrators at MTC are eager to acknowledge the milestone and commit to another fifty years of serving the community.
In 1971 the first group of students began courses at Marion Technical College (then known as Marion County Technical Institute). Since then, over 50,000 students have attended classes. At its inception, Marion Technical College offered only four degree programs with all classes being held in Morris Hall. Today, there are over 60 programs for students to choose from and the campus has expanded multiple times. Marion Technical College recently issued a news release recounting the history of the college and looking forward to the coming years.
With their sights on the future, Marion Technical College emphasizes the affordability of courses offered, touting tuition rates half that of some other Colleges and Universities in Ohio. Also highlighted is financial aid availability through the College Credit Plus and Graduate Pathways to Success programs along with many other scholarship opportunities. It is noted that 90% of students at MTC receive financial aid in some form.
Marion Technical College has been forced to cancel many previously planned celebrations of the 50th anniversary due to COVID-19, but plans to hold a "big tent" event in June to bring people together safely in an outdoor setting. In the meantime, MTC President Ryan McCall imparted this message, "Marion Tech is proud to help generations of students achieve their dreams. We look forward to helping students over the next 50 years. It is exciting to look back and see where Marion Tech has been and to also wonder where the future will take us."
