Diversity scholarship recently established at Central Ohio Technical College

Central Ohio Technical College made the announcement in a recent release. The scholarship was established by friends of Eleanor Jackson, a local small business owner who was deeply involved in her community. Beginning in the fall of 2021, the COTC Diversity Scholarship is scheduled to be awarded annually to students who demonstrate financial need and are pursuing a degree in either healthcare technology or law enforcement. Priority will be given first to females of African American descent, then to males of African American descent, then opened up to students of other diverse racial or ethnic backgrounds. The anonymous donors that established the $25,000 endowed scholarship fund have vowed to match any additional funds raised by other donors.

The goal of the scholarship is to support the upcoming generation of students of color and help them to forge impactful career paths that have a positive impact on the community. As noted by COTC President Dr. John M Berry, "I am thankful to the donors for their commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in our campus community, which is beautifully diverse, welcoming and grounded in the principles of respect for one another and the human dignity of all. By removing the financial barriers to education for students of color, this scholarship helps us maintain these values. Additionally, COTC has a deep respect for our healthcare workers who have risen to the occasion in this pandemic and law enforcement personnel who serve honorably and respectfully to protect our communities."
