Two Sullivan University medical programs receive recognition for excellence

Administrators credit faculty excellence and welcome the top rankings as evidence of the school's success.

A recent release from Nursing Degree Search ranked Sullivan University's Practical Nursing Program second best in Kentucky. Nursing Degree Search is an online service that compiles information on nursing schools for prospective students trying to find the right program. School officials attribute the high ranking to the faculty at Sullivan. Also noted was the well-rounded coursework available at Sullivan. The recognition of the Practical Nursing Program comes on the heels of another recognition for the Medical Assisting program in October.

Sullivan University, founded in 1962, is a private college that offers associate, bachelor, and doctoral-level degrees in healthcare, business, hospitality, and legal studies. A Sullivan press release regarding the recent ranking from Nursing Degree Search attributes the program's success to its administration and faculty. Dean of Nursing at Sullivan, Carla Carter, says, "Sullivan University administration and faculty are caring, compassionate nurses with many years of experiences and skills beyond the clinical setting, with a clear vision of nursing and nursing's value." Nursing students at Sullivan can expect to learn about patient care from all aspects. From basic care like changing linens to patient comfort to advanced care techniques, Sullivan nursing students are taught all facets of nursing. Upon completion of the practical nursing program, students are equipped with the tools needed to take a national test to become a licensed practical nurse.

In October, Sullivan was also recognized by Medical Assistant Advice, another online medical education resource, as the top program in Kentucky for medical assistant training. Students enrolled in this program learn about billing, insurance, and patient record keeping along with clinical skills such as drawing blood, taking vitals, and assisting doctors with medical procedures. In another release, Sullivan University Medical Assisting Program Director Jill Ferrari explains that the ranking demonstrates the excellence of education provided at Sullivan, "Recognition of program quality by outside agencies or peers demonstrates excellence. This will only solidify our reputation in our community more soundly as being a competent source of quality graduates for employment."
