Graduates of Wayne County Community College District eligible for tuition discount at Western Governors University

A recently established partnership will offer a five percent tuition discount in 60 degree programs through Western Governors University for Wayne County Community College District students.

Wayne County Community College District, Michigan Community Colleges Association, and Western Governors University entered into a partnership in June that will provide a five percent discount on tuition to WCCCD graduates pursuing any of 60 eligible degree programs at WGU. WCCCD employees and graduates are also eligible to apply for scholarships through the WGU
Community College Partner Scholarship fund. The agreement allows for easy credit transfers and is intended to increase the rates of WCCCD graduates continuing to earn higher degrees.

Western Governors University is a private, nonprofit online university started in 1997. The 60 degree programs that qualify for the tuition discount are in business, education, IT, and health care. A press release from Wayne County Community College District touts the advantages of the partnership with WGU. As WCCCD Chancellor Dr. Curtis L. Ivery put it, "Our mission has always been to provide pathways to better lives through higher education. This program is firmly within that mission and expands on our existing transfer programs and university partnerships to help more students obtain advanced degrees seamlessly and in their own backyard."

Michigan Community Colleges Association has helped establish partnerships between WGU and 27 other community colleges in Michigan, providing tuition discounts and scholarship opportunities for graduates and employees alike.
