The LTU STEM Scholars Award will provide four years of financial assistance to students who enroll in one of 14 degree programs and meet other requirements.
Students at Lawrence Technological University have a new source of financial aid available to them if they are enrolled in certain degree programs. The scholarship opportunity is provided by LTU's Marburger STEM Center, which serves as a center for K-12 outreach in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in the region. Administrators hope the scholarship will incentivize more students to attend LTU in STEM disciplines and then help the students achieve academic and career success through a multidisciplinary approach that encourages both STEM learning and entrepreneurship.
The application process is underway for the STEM Scholars program. Qualified applicants will be registered in one of 14 possible degree programs and be required to attend at least 30 credit hours of classes per year. Over four years, students can be awarded up to $78,600 if they continue to meet requirements. Administrators spoke about the program in a recent news release from the university. LTU Provost Tarek Sobh emphasized how the selected degree programs will help students achieve career goals, "These programs all lead to high-paying professional careers. Lawrence Tech's role as a dynamic, future-focused university prepares technologically savvy graduates for 21st Century interdisciplinary careers, and job titles that do not yet even exist."
Lisa Kujawa, LTU associate provost for enrollment and outreach, also spoke about the goals of the scholarship program, and the career potential for students who complete all four years, "The purpose of this award is to empower more students to pursue degrees in the fields of science, technology, and mathematics and to spark their interest in the exploration of STEM subjects and careers. Another important objective is to prepare students to become entrepreneurs within the STEM fields. Studying STEM disciplines at LTU prepares our students for many of the most rewarding careers and highest-paying jobs."
Eligible degree programs include those in chemistry, biology, engineering, media communication, and psychology, among others.
