Hondros College of Nursing announces new Akron Campus

The new location of Hondros College of Nursing will be home to a Practical Nursing program and add to Hondros' six other colleges across Ohio and Indiana.

A new campus of Hondros College of Nursing in Akron was announced in January and the inaugural group of students will begin classes in April. Local healthcare employers are looking forward to having another institution graduating qualified healthcare professionals to meet an increasing demand for practical nurses. At the time of the announcement, Hondros School of Nursing also reported that Anthony Hibbs would serve as Regional Campus Executive Director for both the Akron and Cleveland campuses.

News of the new campus was announced by Hondros in a release published on their website. In the release, Jamie Weston-Cook, manager of recruiting and digital strategy for Danbury Senior Living spoke about the news of the new campus, "Danbury Senior Living is excited for the Akron campus of Hondros College of Nursing to open. We've been partnering with Hondros for some time now and the addition of the Akron campus will only strengthen that partnership. In a time when we need nurses now, more than ever, Hondros works diligently to provide well-educated and qualified nurses to the workforce. We can't wait to see how the addition of this new campus amplifies that contribution."

Data from the Ohio Governor's Office of Workforce Transformation show that practical nurses along with registered nurses are included in the top ten fields in terms of anticipated job growth in the region. CEO Harry Wilkins of Hondros College of Nursing talked about the role of the Hondros in meeting those regional workforce needs, "We are excited to be part of the Akron community and preparing nurses to meet the region's need in a time when healthcare workers in general, and nurses specifically, are playing a vital role in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. By opening our seventh campus location, Hondros College of Nursing is expanding its ability to educate new nurses on the front lines and serve in these important roles in our healthcare system."
